This introductory class will have a brief history about encaustics and encaustic care. It will cover safety and safe practices in the studio. You will learn how to treat the edges, prepare a panel, the variety of ways to apply the hot wax, how and when to fuse and fusing options. Brushes, color, color mixing, variances in paints will be discussed, how to achieve a smooth or textured surface and a introduction to toner image transfers, stencils and mark-making. You will have 2 10"x10" panels to create with during a class day. Be sure to pack a lunch, we will take a short break around noon.
Second level class of going further into exploring collage, texture, line, incising, delving further into image transfers, stencils and mark-making. There will be plenty of time for each person to paint and experiment on a limited color palette. You will have 2 10"x10" panels to create with during a class day. Encaustics for teens
This class is teen friendly for ages 13+ (under 13 if they have previous painting experience). This introductory class starts with a demonstration of working with hot, pigmented wax. We will play, experiment and have fun with various tools to understand how the hot wax works on small wood panels.
